Finding Creative Momentum
Over the years I've learned the benefits of starting my studio work with some fun and easy creative exercises to loosen me up. I also find that these exercises usually provide lots of good inspiration and creative ideas to get the ball rolling. Today's creative exercise was a mini mood-book.
Instead of creating one mood-board, I decided it would be more helpful to divide my capstone concept into its multiple themes. I then used these themes to create mini collages for each one, to help identify my visual language. Overall, this exercise was extremely helpful to make more tangible the aesthetic and design that I am trying to achieve. It was also helpful to zero in on my key themes and better understand what they each mean to me, and how they are connected. The words I used were: decay, structured chaos, nature, & texture. I also determined my colour pallet based on the colours I saw popping out in my themed collages. Making is so satisfying, no matter what I make. Sometimes I just need to start making to get making, ya know!?
